The Amaranto Quartet celebrates its 24th anniversary, thus becoming one of the groups with the longest uninterrupted career within the genre of this country. For the tour that begins in 2025 and will take them through theaters and auditoriums throughout Spain and Portugal, they have prepared a special repertoire that includes their most recognized works along with the great bolero classics that have brought them so much success over the years.
Amaranto is the universal flower of Love. What better name for a group that was born in Jaén in the autumn of 1997, composed of Aurelio García Martos, Juan Jiménez Román, Juan Carlos Medina Romero, and Sergio García Morillas; all linked to different musical initiatives and groups, not only at a provincial level but also national and international, and who, in this case, unite their interests around a musical style that was born more than 100 years ago on the island of Cuba as an evolution of rhythms such as the Habanera and the Contradanza and that, since then, has captivated and enchanted all who listen to it in any country in the World. We are referring to the Bolero and some say that the Bolero has returned. But the truth is that it never left. It has always been, is, and will be occupying a cherished place within any loving heart, wherever it may be.
The group Amaranto, with a classic structure in the style of the most genuine quartets of the genre that have always reigned in Puerto Rico; takes a journey, in its repertoire, through forever unforgettable themes, composed by the most prestigious bolero creators in history, and interpreted decade after decade by countless exceptional and beloved voices (Los Panchos, Armando Manzanero, Moncho, Los Sabandeños, etc.). But it has also incorporated beautiful original boleros of their own that this group, with the name of a love flower, intersperses in their concerts with other hotter and livelier rhythms, such as the guaracha, the Cuban son, bossa nova, etc.
In 2001, he released his first discographic work, which under the generic name “Si me propongo” (Title of one of his own boleros) provided an overview of what constituted his live concerts (his own and covered boleros, bachata and son). The CD interested the distributor TEMA, which re-released it in 2002 worldwide.
In September 2005, he recorded his second discographic work “Desde el Corazón” (From the Heart), in which he included timeless boleros: “La Historia de un Amor” (The Story of a Love), “Obsesión” (Obsession), “La Hiedra” (The Ivy), “Poquita Fe” (Little Faith), etc. Along with his own and unpublished songs (“Compárame con Él” (Compare Me with Him), “El Velero” (The Sailboat), “Tu Boca” (Your Mouth)) and other rhythms such as Cuban son (“Querido Compay” (Dear Compay) [mix homage to Compay Segundo], “Cuarto de Tula” (Tula’s Room) and “Negra Tomasa”); as well as bossa nova (“Tardes en Itapuá” (Evenings in Itapuá)), among others. Previously, in February 2005, a compilation of timeless boleros was released under the name “Amaranto, en Esencia” (Amaranth, in Essence).
In 2011, he presented a new discographic work, “Boleranto”, in which the group delves into the deepest roots of the bolero and, as the title indicates, merges with it. With a personal style but respecting the essence of the bolero, he once again takes a journey through its history, including some of the most beautiful boleros ever composed: “Sin ti” (Without You), “Caminemos” (Let’s Walk), “El Reloj” (The Clock), “Dos Gardenias” (Two Gardenias), “Nosotros” (Us), “Voy a apagar la luz” (I’m Going to Turn Off the Light), “El Vagabundo” (The Vagabond), etc. Not forgetting his own songs that will soon become classics (“No vale la Pena” (It’s Not Worth It)).
Amaranto has taken his Bolero music throughout the geography, not only Andalusian; but also Spanish. Participating in prestigious festivals and performing in incomparable settings, including: University of Summer in Andalusia (Baeza and Moguer campuses); "Lunas de Aranjuez" Festival, "Son de Mar" Festival in Santander; Autumn Festival in Jaén "Music in the Palaces", Granada Congress Palace, Granada's "Isabel la Católica" Theatre; Auditorium of the "Parque de la Constitución" in Marbella; "Guardias Viejas" Castle in El Ejido; Latin music festival in Murcia, Murcia's Romea Theatre, etc. etc. In addition to multiple performances on TV and radio.
We have all, absolutely all of us, dreamed, loved and been captivated at some point in our lives, to the rhythm of a Bolero. Amaranto, in his concerts, attends to and pays tribute to our sentimental side, singing face to face and from the heart; inviting us to melt into the sensuality, sweetness and love, in the warmth of a Bolero.
