"To Love" is a selection of the work that actor Alberto San Juan and guitarist and composer Fernando Egozcue have been doing together for a decade. A handful of words and music that invoke the joy of existence and, in their defense, point to the forces that oppose that joy. A heterodox journey hand in hand with Lorca, Santa Teresa, Benedetti, Concha Piquer, Albert Pla, Machado, Gloria Fuertes and other very varied compositions, both foreign and their own.
TRAJECTORY
"To Love" is the fourth project shared by the Madrid-born actor with the Argentine composer and guitarist since they joined forces in 2013 with the music and poetry recital "Todo dice que sí..." ("Everything says yes..."), featuring a journey through 20th-century Spanish poetry. The chosen poems composed an emotional, philosophical, humorous, and social journey. But above all, they were an affirmation of life. Of the joyful and real possibilities of living it as we wish, based on who we are. Each one and all.
This recital was recommended by LA RED in its theater show notebook in 2013 and was selected to participate in the Feria de Coria del Río as well as in circuits such as ENREDATE de Andalucía, Artes Escénicas de Castilla La Mancha and ODA de Barcelona.
The second project would come in 2016, inaugurated at the Surge Madrid Festival with the title “Ungovernable Spain.” A story of those occasions when the people, the underdogs, the citizenry, the rabble, have taken to the streets to fight for public rights and freedoms. From the Second Republic to today. The narrative was composed of original and borrowed text: poems, speeches, news articles, and songs.
In 2020, they premiered "Enamored Dust" based on texts from the classic of the Spanish Golden Age, including theatrical excerpts by Lope de Vega (*Punishment Without Revenge*), Calderón de la Barca (*Life Is a Dream*), and Zorrilla (*Don Juan Tenorio*). Excerpts from *Don Quixote* and poems by Quevedo, Lope, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Saint John of the Cross, and Saint Teresa of Ávila.
Following more than 150 performances across Spain over the years, not only has a deep friendship formed between these two great artists, but a synergy that transcends the stage, creating a natural bond between word and music.
ALBERTO SAN JUAN - Performer
Born in 1968. He studied theatre at Cristina Rota’s school. Founding member of the Animalario company in 1995, he worked with this group until its dissolution in 2012. Founding member of the Teatro del Barrio cooperative in 2013, he served as artistic director of the project until 2018. To this day, he remains a cooperative partner and regular collaborator of the TdB.

FERNANDO EGOZCUE
Argentine composer, director, and guitarist of new or folk music. Based in Madrid since 1992, he holds a higher degree from the National Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires and from the "Padre Soler" Conservatory in San Lorenzo del Escorial, Madrid. He studied composition with Maestro Guillermo Graetzer, a student of Paul Hindemith. He composes for small and large orchestral ensembles, as well as music for theater, film, and dance.
He has released 11 albums as a composer and guitarist, with performances in Spain (Teatro Real de Madrid, Liceo de Barcelona, Palau de les Arts de Valencia, Auditorio Nacional de Música, Patio del Conde Duque de Madrid, etc.), France, Italy, Monaco, UK, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, Greece, Turkey, Romania, Argentina, Canada, USA, Mexico, Lebanon, Cyprus, Jordan, Oman, etc.
Composer, arranger, and guitarist for the group "Ensemble Nuevo Tango" between 1998 and 2009. He has worked with violinist Ara Malikian for 15 years: "500 Motivations" (2000), Lejos (2007), and "With Eyes Closed" (2011), with actor Alberto San Juan in the show "Todo dice que sí" (2013), and with cantaor José Mercé, singer Pasión Vega, and tenor José Manuel Zapata in the show "Mano a Mano" (2010) and in formations ranging from Quintet, Trio, or as a solo guitarist. Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla gifted him his work "500 Motivations," which he premiered in Buenos Aires. Permanent collaborator of dancer, choreographer, and current director of the Spanish National Ballet, Antonio Najarro, with whom he created the shows "Tango Flamenco" (2002), "Jazzing Flamenco" (2008), and currently "Alento" (2015).
