Luis Merlo

The dream of '27 is a poetic and musical journey conceived as a personal selection of texts performed and interpreted by actor Luis Merlo, who brings to this recital all the depth, sensitivity and interpretive mastery that have made him one of the most recognized voices on the Spanish stage. Through an intimate and deeply emotional gaze, Merlo brings to life the verses of some of the great names of Spanish poetry such as Federico García Lorca, Rafael Alberti, Luis Cernuda, Pedro Salinas or Vicente Aleixandre, turning each poem into a living and moving experience.

Alongside him, baritone Luis Santana and pianist Víctor Carbajo accompany this journey with a carefully crafted musical proposal that dialogues with the word, amplifying its emotion and creating an atmosphere of great scenic beauty. A show where poetry and music merge to celebrate the legacy of the Generation of '27 from a personal, intimate and deeply human perspective.

LUIS MERLO - Performer

Born into the third generation of a family of actors, Luis Merlo, son of María Luisa Merlo and Carlos Larrañaga, has been linked to theater since his childhood. He made his professional debut in 1985 under the direction of Mario Gas in Salomé, within Núria Espert's company, beginning a solid and recognized career in theater, film, and television.

He received extensive artistic training, including studies in dramatic art with Argentine director Ángel Ruggiero, classical and contemporary ballet with teachers such as Víctor Ullate, Carmen Roche, or Carl París, as well as vocal technique with Robert Chantall. He furthered his training abroad, studying the Lee Strasberg method in New York and taking courses in acting, movement, and Shakespearean voice at RADA in London.

On stage, he has participated in major theatrical productions such as Los ochenta son nuestros and 321-322 by Ana Diosdado, Tres sombreros de copa by Mihura, Calígula directed by José Tamayo, Después de la lluvia by Sergi Belbel, El visitante, Te quiero muñeca, Arte by Yasmina Reza, and Play It Again, Sam. He gained particular prominence with Gorda, a major public and critical success for which he won the 2007 Fotogramas Award for Best Lead Actor. He later received the Silver Fotogramas Award in 2010 for Play It Again, Sam, solidifying his status as one of Spain's most beloved and recognized stage actors, successfully balancing his work in theater, television, and film.

LUIS SANTANA - Baritone

This Zamoran baritone began his musical studies at the age of five and has trained with great masters such as Juana Peñalver, Consuelo Barrio, María Teresa Manzano, Miguel Zanetti, tenor Pedro Lavirgen, and Teresa Berganza. He has performed in some of the most important theaters and concert halls in Spain, including the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Auditorio Nacional de Música, the Maestranza in Seville, the Cervantes Theater in Málaga, the Calderón Theater in Valladolid, and the Victoria Eugenia in San Sebastián, as well as developing an intense international activity in cities such as Rome, Paris, Milan, Budapest, Vienna, Lisbon, and Riga. He has worked under the baton of prestigious conductors and starred in memorable concerts such as Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at the Auditorio Nacional alongside the Orfeón Donostiarra, Mozart's Requiem at Seville Cathedral, Brahms' Requiem at the Old Cathedral of Salamanca, and notable tributes to Teresa Berganza, Victoria de los Ángeles, and Ainhoa Arteta.

His artistic versatility has allowed him to tackle a wide repertoire encompassing opera, zarzuela, oratorio, and recitals. He has participated in important national and international festivals and shared the stage with prominent figures in the Spanish music and theater scene. Among his most notable performances are concerts before Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain at the Basilica of the Pilar in Zaragoza, collaborations with artists such as Nati Mistral, Paco Valladares, or Rosa Torres-Pardo. His career has established him as one of the most recognized and appreciated voices within the Spanish lyrical repertoire.
